Idaho counties take a tax deed to property after three years of delinquency and then sell it at a public auction held by the county commissioners. There are no tax lien certificates.
Each county publishes its tax deed auction list and date, often once a year, and sells in person at the courthouse or through an online auction firm, usually with a minimum bid set at the taxes and costs owed. Winning bidders pay promptly and receive a deed from the county, which may still need a quiet-title action for insurability. Separately, the Department of Lands posts timber and land auctions with sale bulletins and a live auction date. Verify access and water rights on rural parcels, which are common in these sales.
