South Carolina is a redeemable deed state

South Carolina counties hold delinquent tax sales, usually in the fall, where the buyer's bid is held for a year while the owner may redeem; unredeemed parcels are deeded to the buyer. Property nobody bids on goes to the county's Forfeited Land Commission.

Redemption period: The owner has 12 months from the sale to redeem, paying the delinquent amount plus interest owed to the buyer; the tax deed issues after that year.
Interest or penalty: Interest owed on redemption rises by quarter, commonly 3%, 6%, 9% and 12% of the bid amount, capped at the opening bid.
