How these sales work

Buying government property in Washington County

Oregon is a tax deed state

Oregon counties foreclose on delinquent property, hold it through a redemption period, and then sell the deed at a county surplus property auction. Investors cannot buy Oregon tax liens.

Redemption period
The owner has two years from the foreclosure judgment to redeem before the county takes the deed; property later sold by the county carries no redemption.
Interest or penalty
Not applicable — buyers purchase county-owned property at auction rather than an interest-bearing certificate.
