How these sales work

Buying government property in Randolph County

West Virginia is a hybrid state

West Virginia sells tax liens on delinquent property, now through the State Auditor's Office rather than the county sheriffs, and the lien holder receives a deed after redemption expires. The process has changed recently, so verify current procedure.

Redemption period: The owner has roughly 18 months after the sale to redeem, and the buyer must complete the notice process before the Auditor issues a deed.
Interest or penalty: Redemption requires paying the buyer's amount plus interest commonly cited at 12% per year.
