Buying government property in Lawrence County

South Dakota is a tax lien state

South Dakota county treasurers sell tax certificates on delinquent property, commonly in December, and the certificate holder can apply for a tax deed after the redemption period expires.

Redemption period: The owner commonly has three years from the sale to redeem before the holder may serve notice and apply for a tax deed, subject to county procedures.
Interest or penalty: Certificates earn interest commonly cited at 10% per year on the amount paid.
