How these sales work

Buying government property in Schuylkill County

Pennsylvania is a tax deed state

Pennsylvania county tax claim bureaus sell delinquent property at an upset sale, then a judicial sale free of liens, and finally from a repository list; Philadelphia and Pittsburgh run their own sheriff and treasurer sales.

Redemption period
There is generally no redemption after a tax claim bureau sale, but Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and some other cities allow redemption within nine months for owner-occupied property sold at sheriff or treasurer's sale.
Interest or penalty
Not applicable in most counties — buyers take a deed, and any city redemption right requires paying the price plus costs rather than interest.
