How these sales work

Buying government property in Middlesex County

Connecticut is a redeemable deed state

Connecticut has no county government, so each town collects its own taxes and holds tax sales under state statute, conveying a deed that stays redeemable for a period after the sale.

Redemption period
The owner commonly has six months from the sale to redeem by paying the bid price plus interest; the buyer's deed becomes absolute only after that window closes.
Interest or penalty
The redeeming owner pays interest of 18% per year on the purchase price, which is the buyer's return if the parcel is redeemed.
